Diving & Underwater Photography
One of the first things you might notice on your first dive in Dominica is the healthy and vibrant reefs. This is reflected by an explosion of color rarely seen on Caribbean reefs and is always one of the lasting memories divers take home. The sponge life is truly spectacular and on every dive you will see sponges of many colors. Pink azure sponges, red rope sponges, yellow tube sponges and purple vase sponges are just some of the colors that will catch your eye. Another unusual aspect of diving in Dominica is an incredible number of crinoids all over the reefs. The variations in color from yellow to red or gold also contribute to the explosions of color and provide for amazing underwater photography opportunities. These are just some of the many reasons to bring your SeaLife camera!
There are three main diving areas on the West Coast, South, Central and Northern side. Volcanic remnants, beautiful caves and coral archways are all part of the stunning seascape that Dominica has to offer divers. In addition, Dominica has an amazing amount of marine life including seahorses, scorpionfish, eels, barracudas, jawfish and much more.
There are many dive operators located in Dominica, each offering something different. All belong to the Dominica Watersports Association and adhere to strict operational and safety procedures. Below is just a sampling of the local dive centers that can help you explore the many reefs and caves Dominica has to offer.
